As a financial advisor of many years I don't believe it makes an awful lot of sense to start a marriage off with a fistful of debt. I would highly recommend not going into debt for the wedding. In the alternative, saving for is probably the best approach especially if the two of you can make it a goal to get to the cost of the wedding, prior to the wedding. In the alternative, you might decide that your idea of total dollars to be spent may in fact be out the line. This is an extremely subjective subject and probably difficult to deal with from an emotional perspective. However, the financial side of this is quite clear and as I stated above, it makes little or no sense to start a marriage with a lingering debt. I hope this gives you a little guidance and good luck.
