Unfortunately, collections remain on your report for about 7 years from the date of the initial missed payment that caused the account to close. Your only hope of getting collections accounts removed from your file is to prove these records either inaccurate or fraudulent. If you believe that the collection shouldn't be on your credit report, then you can submit a dispute with the credit bureaus either online or by mail. You'll have to explain in detail why you think it shouldn't be there, and provide evidence where possible.
