The American Express Blue Card foreign transaction fee is 2.7%. This fee gets assessed both for purchases made while traveling outside of the United States and online, through international merchants. There are a few other Amex Blue cards that have this foreign transaction fee, too.
Here are the Amex Blue credit cards foreign transaction fees:
- American Express Blue Card: 2.7% foreign transaction fees
- Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express: 2.7% foreign transaction fees
- Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express: 2.7% foreign transaction fees
You should also note that American Express has less acceptance abroad compared to Visa and Mastercard credit cards. So, it may be best to leave the American Express Blue cards at home when traveling internationally. Not only will international purchases made with these cards result in a foreign transaction fee, but you may have trouble finding merchants who accept Amex at all.
Alternative credit card options with no foreign transaction fee:
If you are looking to apply for a credit card, there is a wide selection of cards with no foreign transaction fees to choose from. Some good options include the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, the Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card, and the U.S. Bank Altitude® Go Visa Signature® Card.

The American Express Blue Card foreign transaction fee is 2.7%. Using the American Express Blue Card internationally, or even using it to make online purchases from internationally-based merchants, will trigger this foreign fee.
With so many no foreign transaction fee credit cards available, there's no reason to pay a 2.7% surcharge on all purchases processed abroad.
