Amex Platinum’s United Airlines perks include 5 points per $1 spent on airfare booked directly with United Airlines or through American Express Travel, and an annual $200 airline fee credit. Cardholders can apply the credit toward incidentals such as United baggage fees, in-flight food and drink purchases, airport lounge day passes and more. These perks are not exclusive to United Airlines, though. They apply to any major airline.
Amex Platinum also provides airport lounge access for United Airlines customers. The card won’t get you into United Club lounges, but through the Amex Global Lounge Collection, you and at least one guest get free access to lounges such as The Centurion Lounge, Priority Pass lounges, and Delta Sky Club. Amenities may include free food and drinks, Wi-Fi, conference rooms and more.
Amex Platinum offers yet another United Airlines perk through the Star Alliance network. You can transfer points to certain Amex partner airlines in the Star Alliance network, then use those points to book flights on any other Star Alliance airline – including United, which is not an Amex transfer partner. Amex Star Alliance transfer partners include Air Canada, Avianca, All Nippon Airways, and Singapore Airlines.
