The American Express tickets benefit gives all American Express credit card users access to presale tickets and preferred seating. Presale tickets let American Express cardholders buy tickets for a variety of events before they go on sale to the general public. For preferred seating, venues reserve certain seats exclusively for American Express credit card customers.
Both types of American Express ticket options apply to all Amex credit cards. But all purchases will ultimately go through the Ticketmaster website, where you can pay using your Amex card, rewards points or a combination of the two. You can find specific event options there, too, or on the Amex Experiences page. On that note, the Amex Platinum or Centurion (Black) cards actually let you book straight through the Experiences page.
American Express Tickets Benefit – Key Facts
- Account requirements:
You need both an Amex credit card and a Ticketmaster account. You can create a Ticketmaster account for free, online. - Payment options:
During the booking process, you’ll have the option to pay with either your American Express card or rewards points. But you can only use points in increments of 2,000. - American Express Preferred Seating:
You can view eligible shows on Ticketmaster or search for one yourself. In the booking stage, click “American Express Preferred Seating” under “Ticket Type.” Pick a seat from the options shown. Then, log in to your Ticketmaster account to book. - American Express Presale Tickets:
You can see what shows have American Express presales on Ticketmaster or look for a show using their site’s search tool. At the booking stage, click “American Express Cardholder Presale” under “Ticket Type.” You’ll see all the eligible seats. From there, you can choose your seat and pay with your Amex card/rewards after logging in to your Ticketmaster account.
The American Express tickets are the result of a partnership between Amex and Ticketmaster. The benefit is an exclusive perk given to all Amex credit card users (except for prepaid cards or gift cards). While you won’t get any kind of discount when you use a credit card, the ability to guarantee yourself a spot at popular events, ahead of the crowd, can be priceless. Plus, if you have a rewards card, you can earn rewards by charging the American Express tickets to your card.

Did we answer your question?
I just used this feature to look at tickets for an upcoming concert. The american express preferred 'best seating' option was 4 rows behind the standard ticket exact same price, same section. So, the prices were the same but the american express preferred seating option got me worse seats. I've never had this feature actually help me.
