You can earn American Express Business Platinum card points by meeting the initial spending requirement, making ongoing purchases and redeeming your rewards for flights through Amex Travel. If you spend $15,000 in the first 3 months, you’ll earn 120,000 bonus points. You’ll also earn 1 - 5 points per $1 on purchases. Plus, when you use points to pay for eligible First and Business Class flights booked through Amex Travel, you’ll get 35% of them back.
Your points will show up in your account somewhere between 6-12 weeks after you earn them, depending on the type of bonus.
Here’s how you earn American Express Business Platinum card points:
- Initial Bonus: You earn 120,000 points for spending $15,000 within 3 months You’ll get your points 8-12 weeks after you meet the spending requirements.
- Ongoing Rewards: You earn 5 points per $1 spent on flights and prepaid hotels on amextravel.com, 1.5 points per $1 on U.S. construction material and hardware, U.S. electronic goods, U.S. shipping as well as on purchases of $5,000 or more (up to $2 million of these purchases per year combined), and 1 point per $1 on all other purchases. If you don’t make your minimum payment on time, you forfeit your points for that month. You can get those points back, but you have to pay a fee. Since Amex points are worth up to one cent each, paying the fee is only worth it if you have a few thousand points or more.

The initial 75k points bonus is good, if you can afford to buy things worth $20,000.
