To add an Amex Gold authorized user, log in to your online account, then scroll down to “Useful Links” on the right side of the page and click on “Add Someone to Your Account.” After that, enter the user’s name, birthdate and Social Security number, then click the blue “Agree & Submit” button. The birthdate and SSN are optional when you submit your request, but you must provide them within 60 days of the authorized user’s card being issued or it will be canceled. Another way to add an authorized user is to call customer service at 1 (800) 528-4800 and follow the prompts to speak to a customer service representative, then provide the same information you would online. Keep in mind that authorized users must be at least 13 years old.
Once you add an Amex Gold authorized user, you will receive their card in the mail in 7 to 10 business days. If you would like the card to be mailed to the user’s address instead, you can request it by phone. And if you want to choose how much the user can spend, you can set a limit as low as $200 from your online account.
The Amex Gold authorized user fee is $0 for the first 5 authorized users added. For every authorized user after that, the fee is $35 per year. Don’t forget that as the primary cardholder, you are responsible for paying all purchases made by authorized users. In addition, information about the account gets reported on both your credit report and any authorized users’ reports. You can remove a user at any time, and they can also ask Amex to remove them at any time.
