The Amex Gold authorized user fee is $0 for the first 5 people added to the account. For every authorized user after the first 5, Amex Gold’s fee is $35 per person, per year. Amex Gold authorized user fees are in addition to the card’s regular $250 annual fee, which the primary cardholder must still pay every year whether they add authorized users to the account or not.
Any applicable authorized user fees are charged to the primary cardholder the month after an authorized user is added to the account. In addition, the primary cardholder may set spending limits as low as $200 per authorized user. This is key, as the primary cardholder is financially liable for all purchases on the account, regardless of who makes them.
All Amex Gold authorized users will get a card in their own name and will be able to make purchases and earn rewards on the primary cardholder’s account. Their eligible purchases also count toward the card’s dining credits, but they are limited to a maximum of $10 per month ($120 a year) for the entire account.
It’s important to note that Amex Gold authorized users are not to be confused with Amex Platinum authorized users, who also have “Gold cards.” These Platinum authorized user cards earn the same rewards as the Platinum card, and though they are called “Gold cards,” they share none of the same features and perks as the Amex Gold card.
