Once you’ve selected a participating retailer, you will be directed to its website, where you can shop for items as you normally would. You can also bypass the Amex website and go straight to the retailer’s website to shop, if you choose.
When you’re ready to check out, select the “Pay With Points” option in the payment method section, and enter your American Express Platinum card number to see how many points you have available to redeem.

Bear in mind that some retailers like Amazon require you to create an account and link the American Express Platinum card to the account before you can Pay with Points. Points are also worth just 0.7 cents apiece when redeemed via Pay with Points through most retailers, too.
After you’ve made a purchase using the Pay with Points feature, Amex will typically charge the entire purchase amount to your card. You’ll then receive a statement credit for the cash value of the points you redeemed within 2-4 business days.
