American Express Platinum card return protection covers items entirely charged to the American Express Platinum card, up to $300 per item and $1,000 per calendar year per account, if a cardholder tries to return a covered item within 90 days from the date of purchase and the merchant won’t accept it. American Express will refund the full purchase price, less any shipping charges.
To be eligible for American Express Platinum card return protection coverage, an item must be in its original purchase condition and in working order. Purchases must be made in the U.S. or its territories. Also, the merchant that sold the item must have denied your attempt to return it. Some items such as jewelry, computer software, gift cards and more are not covered. A complete list of ineligible items is available on the American Express Platinum card return protection Benefit Guide.
To file an American Express Platinum card return protection claim, call (800) 228-6855 within 90 days of the covered item’s purchase date. You can also request a refund online by clicking “Enter Claims Center Now” and selecting the “Return Protection” option from the “Benefit Information” menu. American Express must receive a signed claim form and any supporting documents within 30 days from your initial call or online request. Once a request has been reviewed and deemed eligible, American Express may instruct you to send the item within 30 days for further evaluation. Make sure you keep a record of your shipping receipt in case the eligible item fails to reach American Express. In the event you are asked to send the purchased item to American Express, you will be reimbursed for the shipping cost.
