The Amex Business Gold 75k bonus is no longer available. It was a promotional offer that expired in 2017. The current Amex Business Gold bonus is 50k points when you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months you have the card. That means you’d have to spend about $1,667 per month to meet the spending requirement. Points are worth 1 cent each when you redeem them for travel or gift cards, so that’s a $500 value, a full 10% return on the $5,000 you have to spend. And it pays for almost 3 years’ worth of annual fees after the free first year.
That’s not the only way to earn a lot of Amex Business Gold bonus points either. Take a look at some of the card’s other features below.
Here’s what you get instead of Amex Business Gold 75k:
High initial bonus. 50k points for spending $5,000 in the first 3 months. While it’s quite a bit smaller than 75k, this bonus is still worth $500, which is a lot more than most cards give you.
Bonus categories. Amex gives you the choice of 5 bonus categories: airfare purchased directly from airlines, U.S. advertising, U.S. shipping, U.S. gas stations and U.S. hardware/software/cloud computing. You can choose one category to receive 3 points per $1, on up to $100k in purchases per year. All of the other categories will each give you 2 points per $1 spent, on up to $100k in purchases per category per year.
After you reach the $100k caps, you’ll get 1 point per $1. You’ll also get 1 point per $1 on all purchases that don’t fit into the bonus categories.
Free employee cards. You can make employees authorized users on your account. The first card costs $50 per year ($0 the first year), but all cards after that are free.
Expense management tools. You’ll get free access to mobile apps to pay your bills and manage your account, detailed yearly summaries and the ability to link your account to Quickbooks.
Travel perks. You can get reimbursed for damage to or theft of rental cars that you pay for with Amex Business Gold. You’re also insured up to $1,250 per person for lost or damaged baggage and $100,000 for death or serious injury caused by a transportation provider. And you can get free roadside assistance four times per year.
To recap, the Amex Business Gold 75k bonus is down to 50k. But that’s still a very respectable amount. You can get other types of bonus points every month. And various other perks, from free cards for employees to travel insurance, sweeten the deal. The decision to apply isn’t a no-brainer, though. You should definitely consider other cards, too, like Chase Ink Business Preferred ($1,000 bonus) and Capital One Spark Cash for Business ($500 bonus).
