You can cancel your Best Buy® Credit Card by calling customer service at (888) 574-1301. The same goes for the Best Buy® Store Card, too. You cannot cancel a Best Buy® Credit Card online. But you might want to think twice about calling it quits, anyway. Canceling a card shortens your average account age and reduces the total amount of available credit you have, which can lower your credit score. Since none both the Best Buy credit cards have $0 annual fees, it’s probably better to just keep yours open, even if you don’t use it.
That said, you may certainly cancel your Best Buy® Credit Card if you wish. Just bear in mind that canceling a card doesn’t get you out of any balance you might have. Best Buy allows you to close cards while you have a balance on them, but you’ll still need to make your regular monthly payments. You just won’t be able to make any new purchases.
Here’s how to cancel your Best Buy® Credit Card:
- Call Best Buy® Credit Card customer service at (888) 574-1301.
- Enter your account number so Best Buy can pull it up.
- Tell the representative you’d like to close your account.
The representative will likely try to convince you not to cancel. So be persistent. Once they accept your cancellation, a few things will happen. Within the next month, Citi (the issuer) will report the card as closed on your credit report. Your score may dip slightly because of the shortened history and reduced credit.
If your account doesn’t have an unpaid balance, you don’t need to do anything else. But if you still owe money, you’ll continue to receive monthly statements until you finish paying it off.
