To get a Capital One Journey credit limit increase, log in to a Capital One Journey account online and click “I Want To,” then scroll down to the “Upgrades and Offers” section and select “Request Credit Line Increase.” Journey cardholders can also call customer service at 1-800-227-4825 to request a credit line increase.
Sometimes, Capital One Journey cardholders won’t even need to request a credit line increase to get one. The Journey Student card gets automatic credit line reviews starting in as little as 6 months from the account opening date. If you’ve been keeping up with payments and using your credit wisely, Capital One may increase your credit limit for you.
If you don’t want to wait and you decide to request a higher credit limit, Capital One will ask for information such as your total annual income, employment status, and monthly mortgage or rent payment. When submitting the request, you can ask for any increase amount, but it’s best to keep it reasonable – generally between 10% and 25%.
Not everyone can get a credit limit increase on a Journey credit card. To be eligible, the account must be open for at least 3 months. In addition, your credit limit can’t have increased or decreased in the past 6 months. Finally, you must make on-time payments with all creditors, since Capital One will conduct a soft pull on your credit when they review your eligibility.
If you get approved for a credit line increase, your new credit limit will be available immediately after you accept it. If denied, you can reapply at any point, but it’s best to wait at least 6 months between requests, unless you get a salary increase or experience other life changes that greatly improve your eligibility.
