Capital One Venture travel insurance covers you for serious accidents caused by a travel provider. It also covers rental cars and lost or damaged luggage. Capital One Venture’s travel insurance benefits don’t cost extra, either. They’re covered by Venture’s $95 annual fee and kick in automatically when you pay for travel with the card. You just have to submit a claim if a covered event occurs.
Here are the Capital One Venture travel insurance benefits:
- Travel Accident Insurance. Capital One will pay up to $250,000 for death or dismemberment caused by travel companies like airlines, trains and buses. Cardholders, their spouses and any dependents younger than age 18 are covered. For an incident to be eligible for coverage, you must have paid the entire fare with your Venture card or miles. There are a few exceptions to what’s covered, though, so it’s a good idea to read Capital One’s benefit guide.
- Lost Luggage Reimbursement. If your bags are lost by a travel provider or get stolen, you can get reimbursed for up to $3,000 per trip. This applies to both you and immediate family. But you must pay for the ticket(s) and any baggage fees with Capital One Venture to be eligible. There’s also a laundry list of items that are not covered, including art, animals, vehicles, sporting equipment, furniture and cell phones.
- Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver. You’re insured for collision damage and theft when you rent certain types of vehicles with your Venture card. Capital One will pay up to the cash value of the vehicle. Notable exceptions include expensive and exotic cars, vans, motorcycles, trucks and limousines.
Capital One Venture travel insurance isn’t the most robust policy available from a credit card. But it’s solid, doesn’t cost you any extra money and isn’t a reason not to get the card. After all, you get Venture for the rewards and use the travel insurance when you have to.

It's pretty good, standard issue CDW, lost luggage and travel accident. Nothing special, like trip cancellation.

Travel accident insurance is decent (they offer it on all credit cards they issue). With the Venture you will also receive access to lost luggage protections as well. Unfortunately, your card will not provide users with trip cancellation insurance. Therefore, if your flight is canceled by the carrier or you suffer from some sort of emergency that will cause you to miss a flight, Capital One will not reimburse you for your trouble.
