To get a Capital One virtual card number, use Capital One’s virtual assistant, Eno. It’s available as a free browser extension on Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge. During the checkout process on a website, Eno will automatically pop up and create a virtual card number for you to use in place of your actual credit card. This is a unique card number that comes with an expiration date and security code. This virtual card is connected to your Capital One credit card account. But it can only be used at the merchant it’s generated for. And it’s easy to delete if the merchant has a data breach.
Using Eno to get a virtual number is simple. When checking out on a website, wait for Eno to pop up and click “Begin.” Set a nickname for the virtual number, such as “Amazon” or “Target.” Wait a few seconds for Eno to generate a virtual Capital One card number. Drag and drop the virtual information to the payment fields on the checkout page, if Eno did not automatically fill them in. Lastly, finish paying as normal.
If the merchant is compromised, simply click the extension at the top of the browser and go to the dashboard. From there, you can delete any number you wish. The next time you shop at the merchant, you can create a new number.
