The Chase Ink Preferred bonus categories are travel, shipping, advertising purchased on social media sites and search engines, internet, cable and phone services. Cardholders earn 3 points / $1 spent in these bonus categories, up to a combined $150,000 spent every year. All other purchases net 1 point / $1. Points never expire as long as your Chase Ink Preferred account remains open and in good standing.
Here are the Chase Ink Preferred bonus categories:
- Travel: Broad category including everything from airlines to hotels, motels, timeshares, cruise ships, car rentals, limousines, toll roads and more. Tourist attractions and boat rentals are among the purchases that will not earn rewards.
- Shipping: Purchases are limited to specialized merchants such as couriers and freight shipping companies. Purchases at office supply stores that also mail packages do not qualify as shipping.
- Internet, Cable and Phone Services: Related equipment purchases not included. Bill payments that are not classified by the merchant in the applicable service category not included (e.g.: phone bill payments in a store classified as a telephone equipment store).
- Social media and search engine advertising: Purchases must be made directly from the specific platform. Subscription or app purchases are not included.
Chase Ink Preferred rewards are worth 25% more when you redeem them for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards.
