When a credit card offers a 0% APR, it means you will not be charged interest on purchases and/or balance transfers for a certain period of time, provided that you make on-time minimum monthly payments in the meantime. With a general-purpose 0% credit card (i.e. a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover card), any balance remaining at the end of the 0% introductory period will be subject to the card’s regular APR. Store-affiliated credit cards usually work a bit differently, though. If you don’t repay your full balance within a store card’s 0% intro term (or you miss a minimum payment along the way), interest will retroactively apply to your entire original purchase amount.
