The Chase Slate Edge℠ card offers rental car insurance as a free benefit. Slate Edge rental car insurance covers physical damage or theft of the vehicle, reasonable and customary towing charges, and valid loss-of-use charges incurred by the rental car agency. Cardholders are covered up to actual cash value of most rented cars. To get the coverage, a cardholder must decline the rental agency’s insurance and pay for the rental entirely with a Slate Edge credit card.
Key Things to Know About Slate Edge Rental Car Insurance
- Coverage Amount. Up to actual cash value of most rented cars.
- File Claims for Domestic Rentals Through Primary Insurance First. The Slate Edge card rental car insurance benefit provides secondary coverage for domestic rentals up to 31 days, so you will need to file a claim through your primary insurance carrier first, if you have one.
- Coverage Is Primary When Abroad. If you’re renting a vehicle outside of your home country, coverage under the Slate Edge card rental car insurance benefit is primary and lasts for up to 31 days.
- Not All Vehicles Or Incidents Are Covered. The Slate Edge rental car insurance benefit does not cover expensive or antique vehicles, vans designed to carry more than 9 people, vehicles that have an open cargo bed, trucks (other than pick-ups), motorcycles, mopeds, or motorbikes, among others. Coverage also does not apply to certain incidents such as any violation of the auto rental agreement, loss or theft of personal belongings, items not installed by the original manufacturer, and damage due to off-road operation.
