Citi trip cancellation & interruption protection will end for all Citibank credit cards on September 22, 2019. Citi will accept claims within 60 days of a covered event that occurs before that date. The protection covers cardholders and family members traveling with them for up to $5,000 per trip cut short because of sickness, injury or death. The benefit also reimburses covered travelers if a trip is cancelled for jury duty, military service, severe weather and more.
Trip cancellation coverage begins the day you book the trip and ends on the trip departure date. For trip interruptions, you’re covered from the trip departure date until its completion date. Citi will reimburse you for either the amount you charged to your Citi card (plus any portion you paid for with rewards) or $5,000, whichever is less.
To file a Citi trip cancellation & interruption protection claim, call 1 (866) 918-4670. You can also download a copy of the form from the Citi benefits website. Make sure to complete and return the form, along with any required documents, as soon as possible.
Citi trip cancellation & interruption protection does not cover certain situations. For example, the sickness, injury or death of a family member not traveling with you does not qualify. Neither does travel taken against the advice of a licensed physician. Coverage also does not apply to trips cancelled or interrupted because you did not have required travel documents such as a passport or visa.
Citi will drop several other travel benefits for certain cards on September 22, 2019. Those include car rental insurance, travel accident insurance, roadside assistance and travel emergency assistance. Changes vary by card. So refer to your card’s Benefits FAQs for specifics.
