Discover More vs. Discover it isn’t really an issue anymore, unless you already have Discover More and are considering switching. The Discover More credit card was discontinued in 2013 and replaced with Discover it Cash Back, which has better introductory financing and a first-year bonus.
Discover More offered 12 months interest free on purchases and balance transfers, while Discover it Cash Back extends that offer by 3 months, giving 0% for 15 months. Both cards give 5% cash back in different categories each month, up to a quarterly maximum. They also give unlimited 1% cash back on everything else. But Discover it Cash Back also doubles the rewards you’ve earned at the end of your first year. And you needed excellent credit to get Discover More, while Discover it Cash Back only requires good credit.
Even though you can’t get Discover More anymore, it’s still good to know how the new Discover it Cash Back card stacks up against its predecessor.
Here are key differences between Discover More vs Discover it Cash Back:
- Intro Financing Offer: Discover it Cash Back offers 0% APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers. Discover More offered the same but for 12 months. Discover it Cash Back wins.
- First-Year Bonus: All cash back earned at the end of your first year is doubled with Discover it Cash Back. This bonus applies to all currently available Discover cards and wasn’t offered with Discover More. Discover it Cash Back wins.
- Ongoing Rewards: Both Discover More and Discover it Cash Back give 5% cash back on up to $1,500 spent quarterly in categories that rotate. They also offer 1% back on all other purchases. This category is a tie.
- Eligibility: You can get approved for Discover it Cash Back with good credit. Discover More required excellent credit. Discover it Cash Back wins.
The Discover it Cash Back card is basically a revamped version of the Discover More card for people with good credit or better. And there are a lot of other cards in the Discover it family that have similar terms but different rewards and credit requirements, like Discover it Chrome and Discover it Miles.
If you currently have a Discover More card and decide to convert it to a Discover it card, you can call customer service at 1 (800) 347-2683. There’s no application or hard credit pull required. Unfortunately, you won’t be eligible to receive the 0% APR or first-year cash back match if you do this. When you “convert,” it’s like getting an upgrade on your existing card. You’re not considered a new cardmember. The 0% APR and cash back match promotions are only available to new cardmembers, so you’d have to put in an application for a new card instead.

Did we answer your question?
Just checked my More benefits when I was offered a conversion to It. For non-categories purchases, I was only getting 0.25% cash back on the first $3000, then 1% afterwards, so It has better ongoing rewards.
