You need to be at least 18 years of age to be able to apply for the Discover it® Secured Credit Card. If you’re not yet 21, you will need a co-signer or proof of independent income. Under the age of 18, your options to build credit are reduced to being an authorized user on someone else’s credit card.

Please keep in mind that you have to pay the security deposit online as part of the application process for the Discover it® Secured Credit Card, so be sure to have your bank routing number and account number at hand.

On your own, you need to be 18, but you could get added as an authorized user from 16.
