Citi ThankYou points do not expire as long as your account remains open and in good standing. Shared points, which are ThankYou points transferred to another person’s ThankYou account, expire 90 days from the date they’re transferred. If you close your account, ThankYou points will expire 60 days after you do so.
If you have ThankYou points that are about to expire, points with the earliest expiration date will automatically be deducted from your ThankYou account when you redeem. To find out if you have points close to expiring, log onto ThankYou.com and under “My Account, click “My Points Summary.” You can also call the ThankYou Service Center at 1-800-THANKYOU (1 (800) 842-6596).
ThankYou Rewards is Citi’s loyalty program. You must be approved for a Citi Thank You card such as the ThankYou Preferred or Premier card in order to begin earning points. The Citi Prestige is currently not accepting new applicants, but current cardholders can still earn and redeem ThankYou points.
ThankYou cards earn 2 -3 points per $1 spent at gas stations and 2 points on dining purchases. Citi Prestige cardholders can still earn 3 points per $1 spent on airlines and hotels, including travel agencies. ThankYou cards earn 1 point on all other purchases.
To manage your rewards points, you will need to go through ThankYou.com. Points can be redeemed at 1 cent each for gift cards, merchandise or statement credits. You can also redeem points for purchases through Amazon.com when you link your ThankYou card as a payment method. Points are worth 1 cent each when redeemed.
Points are worth more when redeemed through the Citi Travel Center. With the Prestige card, points are worth 33% (.013 cents per point) more when booking flights, and ThankYou Premier points are worth 25% (.0125 cents per point) when redeemed for flights, hotels and rental cars.
To get the biggest bang for your points, you can transfer ThankYou points to one of Citi’s travel partners. Points transfer at a 1:1 ratio and can be redeemed at 2 cents per point through airlines such as JetBlue Airways or Virgin Atlantic.
