A credit card with a 0% APR does not have interest for a limited time. At the end of a credit card’s 0% APR introductory period, which may apply to purchases, balance transfers or both, the card’s regular interest rate will take effect. Most 0% APR offers last from 12 to 18+ months, though an issuer may revoke your 0% APR for a late or missed payment at any time during the promotional period.
For most credit cards, once a 0% APR expires, the regular interest rate immediately applies to any outstanding balance, along with any future balances carried over to the next billing period. A 0% APR offer works differently with many store credit cards, though. If you don’t pay off your entire debt by the end of the promotional period, all interest that would have accumulated on the original purchase amount will retroactively apply, as if the regular APR had been in effect the whole time.
