To cancel a USAA Rewards Visa, call customer service at 1 (800) 531-8722 and ask a customer service rep to cancel your card account. Cardholders can also cancel an account in person at a USAA branch.

Be aware that if there’s a balance remaining on the canceled account, you will still need to make at least the minimum payment every month until the balance is paid in full. In addition, you will forfeit any unused points, so be sure to redeem them before you cancel the card. You will also need to update the payment method for any recurring charges linked to your USAA Rewards Visa.

How to Cancel a USAA Rewards Visa

Call customer service at 1 (800) 531-8722 and enter your USAA member number number and Social Security number to verify your identity.

Then, follow the prompts to speak to a customer service representative, and let them know you want to cancel. The representative may offer you a retention bonus to keep you on as a customer, but you can simply decline the offer and proceed with canceling the account.

Redeem points for Travel.

USAA points are worth the most when redeemed for travel.

Redeem USAA points regularly.

USAA points do not expire due to account inactivity, but stockpiling points does put you at risk of rewards devaluation. Plus, you won't get to enjoy the fruits of your spending if you don't redeem.

Keep your account in good standing.

If USAA closes your account because of a failure to pay the bill or fraudulent activity, you'll lose any unredeemed points you have saved.

Redeem before closing your account.

Any points you don't redeem before closing your account will be lost after 90 days.

How to Dispute a Charge on a USAA Card Online

Click the "Account Activity" tab.

Search for the transaction in question.

Select the transaction for more details.

Click "Dispute Transaction" to open an inquiry.

Check for a confirmation e-mail from USAA verifying receipt of the inquiry.

Before you dispute a charge through USAA, you should first contact the merchant associated with the charge on your USAA card. Merchants have easier access to your purchase information and should be better able to quickly remedy the issue. If for some reason, the merchant is unable or unwilling to work with you on a disputed charge, you can then file a dispute with USAA.

Once you've initiated the dispute, USAA will then contact the merchant and review any information provided by both parties. You won't be charged for the disputed transaction, nor any associated fees or interest, while the dispute is under investigation. And you can still use your USAA card as you normally would while a dispute is ongoing.

USAA will notify you of the outcome of the dispute after they've completed their investigation. They will either issue a chargeback to your account for the contested amount, or allow the charge to stand. If the disputed charge is ruled to be valid, you would then have to pay that amount, including any applicable fees and interest charges that accrued during the dispute, starting from the original purchase date.
