Hi! I don’t have personal experience with this issue, but I think that if your mother calls the credit card company and asks to have her credit limit lowered, they would do so. It doesn’t seem to always work the other way (to raise limits) because I have called credit card companies to ask for a credit limit increase and they have declined to do so even with having a great credit score! But in your mom’s case, it would definitely be worth a call to ask for a lowered rate. I am thinking, though, that your mom maybe wouldn’t want to make that call? Is it maybe that she wants to keep charging and charging as much as she is allowed to on her purchases and that it is you who is worried about her rising debt? In that case, if your mom is not willing to make the call, there is probably nothing you can do about the problem except keep encouraging her to spend less. I am so sorry you are facing this problem – your mom is lucky to have such a concerned son or daughter as you are. Best wishes to you and thank you for writing.
