The Mastercard extended warranty benefit doubles a product’s manufacturer’s warranty, up to 12 months, on eligible items purchased with a covered Mastercard credit card. The original warranty on the item must be 12 months or less to qualify for the extended warranty. If the product fails after the original warranty expires, but within the extended warranty period, Mastercard will cover up to the purchase price or $10,000, whichever is less.
The extended warranty benefit comes with select Mastercard World and World Elite credit cards, such as the Capital One Savor World Elite Mastercard. But it does not come standard with every Mastercard credit card. It’s up to the card issuer to choose which network-based credit card benefits end up on a given card.
To submit a Mastercard extended warranty claim, call 1-800-Mastercard or file a claim online at mycardbenefits.com within 60 days of the item’s failure. Hold onto those receipts and warranties, and you’ll be able to file a claim without much hassle. You will also need a repair estimate from a factory-authorized service provider.
It’s worth noting that this benefit doesn’t cover some purchases, including used or antique items, motorized vehicles, plants, animals, groceries, services, software, anything purchased for commercial use and more. Some of those things are obvious; others, not so much.
