You can add a USAA® Rewards™ American Express® Card authorized user by logging in to your online account and clicking the "Account Services" tab, or call customer service at (800) 531-8722. You will need to provide their full name, USAA number, Social Security number, citizenship and date of birth to add them as an authorized user.
A primary cardholder can make anyone a USAA® Rewards™ American Express® Card authorized user, as there are no minimum age requirements. USAA does limit you to a maximum of five authorized users per account, though.
How to Add a USAA® Rewards™ American Express® Card Authorized User Online
- Log in to your USAA® Rewards™ American Express® Card card account.
- Click the "Account Services" tab.
- Click "Request an Additional Card for Someone Else" under the "Card Services" menu.
- Enter the authorized user's full name, USAA number, Social Security number, citizenship and date of birth.
- Click "Add."
When you add a USAA® Rewards™ American Express® Card authorized user, they will receive their own credit card, sent to your mailing address, usually within 5-10 business days of being added to the account. The authorized user's credit card will be linked to your account and will have full access to the account's credit limit.
In addition, any purchases an authorized user makes on the account will appear on your statement, and as the primary cardholder, you are responsible for all purchases on the account. USAA reports account information to all three of the major credit bureaus, which affects not only the user's credit history, but also the primary cardholder's.
