The Wells Fargo Propel foreign transaction fee is 0%. All other Wells Fargo credit cards charge 3% on international purchases, both in-person outside the U.S. and online through merchants based in a foreign country. The Propel American Express card also comes with a $0 annual fee.
With no foreign transaction fee and no annual fee, you’ll pocket more of the rewards you earn with the Propel card. And this card comes loaded with rewards. It offers an initial bonus of 30,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months. There’s also 3 points per $1 spent on travel, dining, transit and gas stations with no quarterly or annual limits. All other purchases earn 1 point per $1 spent.
If you frequently travel abroad, the Propel Amex card may pose some limitations. American Express cards are not as widely accepted internationally as Visa or Mastercard credit cards. You can use American Express cards at about 22 million merchant locations worldwide. But merchants in more than 44 million locations worldwide will accept credit cards on the Visa and Mastercard networks. Discover is a close third at just under 43 million locations.
There is a wide selection of cards from other issuers with no foreign transaction fees to choose from. For example, Capital One never charges foreign transaction fees on any of its cards. Discover cards, meanwhile, come without foreign transaction fees or annual fees.
