Barclaycard credit limits aren’t revealed until you get approved. Barclaycard doesn’t even list minimum credit limits in its cards’ terms and conditions, unlike some other credit card companies. All they say is you can’t request a specific limit for any Barclaycard, even if you’re transferring a balance. We also know that Barclaycard credit limits are generally based on your credit standing and available income. And it’s possible to request a credit limit increase or decrease once your account has been open for four months.
That’s the short story, but there are a few more details you should keep in mind.
Here’s what you should know about Barclaycard credit limits:
- No Hard Info: There are reports of people being approved for credit limits between $1,200 and $10,000. One person said he got the Arrival Card at a $1,200 limit. Another reported getting $4,000 on the Apple Rewards card. Someone else said they were approved for a Barclaycard Ring with a $7,500 limit. And one card member reported a credit limit of $10,000 on a Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard.
- Balance Transfers: If you’re planning to transfer a balance to a Barclaycard, your limit will be assigned before your request is processed. If your limit winds up being less than the amount you asked to transfer, you can either wait for a credit limit increase or apply for a different card.
-
Increases: You can ask for a credit limit increase every four months. You could get approved for the full amount you ask for, or a smaller amount, and either way you’ll get a decision within 24 hours.
To request a Barclaycard credit limit increase, log into your account and click “Accounts & Services.” Then select “Change your credit limit.” You’ll need to enter the new limit you’d like, plus your income and employment details.
You won’t know what your Barclaycard credit limit will be until you apply and (hopefully) get approved. If you don’t like the amount you were approved for, you can call customer service at 1-866-928-8598 and ask to cancel. It’s also easy to ask for an increase. Plus, Barclaycard regularly reviews members’ accounts to see if they’re eligible for a higher credit limit, so you may not even have to do anything to get an increase.

There aren't any standard credit limits. You get approved for a certain amount depending on your credit standing and income.

Barclaycard credit limits are hard to predict. Some credit card companies note the minimum credit limit you’ll get if you get a card, in its terms and conditions. But the only info you’ll find on Barclaycard credit limits is that A) you can’t request a specific limit and B) they’re based on Barclays’ evaluation of your credit. I even tried calling and couldn’t get any more details out of them.
The best, most popular Barclaycard is probably Arrival Plus. So let’s use that as an example. Here’s what you’ll learn about this particular Barclaycard’s credit limit from its terms and conditions:
“We do not permit applicants to request a specific credit limit. We do not consider a request for a balance transfer made with an application to be a request for a particular credit limit. We determine the credit limit on your account independent of and prior to processing any balance transfer request.”
So no one but Barclays can tell you what your Barclaycard credit limit will be. But you can learn a thing or two from user reviews:
- @mcgee_davidr said this about Arrival Plus: “...After 3 years, they lowered my credit limit out of the blue one day from $7k to $3k.”
- @beto84 said this about Barclaycard CashForward: “…approved for initial credit limit of 5 K with a perfect FICO score of 850 (i'm not kidding) and an annual income of more than 650 K.” For Mastercard Black card, people have reported credit limits as high as $20,000-$25,000
User comments can be helpful, but you should also take them with a grain of salt. They may not be representative of the general population. So in the end, it’s still impossible to say what your Barclaycard credit limit will be.

Mine's $4000 on Arrival Plus. They give pretty high limits, and if you've got at least 6 months on your account, with a good payment history, you can ask for more.

That all depends on your credit standing.

I know I was given $3,600 for my Rewards Mastercard, but they don't really have a public minimum.
