The most exclusive credit card ever is the Centurion® Card from American Express – often referred to as the Amex Black Card. The Black Card was introduced in 1999 for the rich and powerful and has remained the most exclusive credit card on the market ever since.
The Centurion Card is so exclusive due to how difficult and expensive it is to obtain. You can only gain access by invitation, as the card does not accept applications. Unconfirmed sources also say that only people who spend between $250,000 and $1 million through American Express each year are invited to apply. Additionally, the Centurion® Card from American Express comes with a $10,000 initiation fee and an annual fee of $5000, meaning you need a significant income and a lot of credit card spending to have a Black Card.
Beyond the cost, cardholders also get access to several perks, adding to the card’s exclusivity. For example, the benefit most associated with the card’s elite status is its 24/7 personal concierge service.
