The Amex PRG airline credit applies to the first $100 in fees charged by your designated airline each year. Upon being approved for an account, you will have the opportunity to choose the airline you’d like to use from a list that includes all the major U.S. carriers. And you’ll automatically receive your first Amex PRG airline credit within 2-4 weeks after using your card to pay an eligible fee. That includes fees for baggage, pets, lounges, flight changes and more. But the credit doesn’t apply to airfare, seat upgrades or fees not charged directly by the airline.
If the fees on your first airfare purchase don’t add up to $100, you’ll receive additional credits after making subsequent qualifying purchases, until your $100 allotment runs out or the year ends. All in all, the entire process is pretty simple, once you pick your airline. But you’d better pick wisely because you’ll only have one chance to change each year, in January. With that in mind, I’ll take you through the process from start to finish so you don’t miss out on any savings.
Here’s how to get the Amex PRG airline credit:
1. Log into your Amex account from their airline choice page.
2. Choose an airline from the dropdown menu. All the major US providers are included.
3. Click the box agreeing to the terms and submit.
4. Pay for airline fees with Amex PRG.
Amex will do all the rest of the work, crediting you automatically for the first $100 in fees. By the way, the official party line is that airline gift cards aren’t eligible for the credit, but I’ve actually seen several people claiming otherwise. I wouldn’t recommend trying it though, unless you’re already planning to buy one anyway.
