Yes, comprehensive insurance does cover tree falling on car. If a tree falls on your car because you drove into it, though, your comprehensive insurance will not cover the claim. That can be covered by a collision insurance policy instead.
Comprehensive car insurance covers any sort of damage caused by things that are not related to an accident, sometimes called “acts of god,” including damage caused by storms or natural disasters.
What Comprehensive Insurance Covers
Covered | Not Covered |
Theft and vandalism | Collision with another car or object |
Flood, fire, or natural disaster damage | Damage caused by the road surface, like potholes |
Animal damage | Roadside assistance, towing, and jump starts |
Glass damage | Rental car expenses after an accident |
Comprehensive insurance is subject to a deductible, so it may not always be worth filing a claim. If repairs for the damage from a tree falling on your car would cost less than or a similar amount as your deductible, it may be better to just pay out of pocket.
It’s also worth noting that even though a comprehensive claim may not affect your insurance rates as much as things like at-fault accidents, you still may see a slight change in your premium after a comprehensive claim.
