It is unlikely that getting your car towed will affect your insurance, whether it’s towed by authorities or because of mechanical problems. If your car is towed by local authorities, it will only affect your insurance if the towing was because of a violation that goes on your driving record, like a DUI. Similarly, your insurance rates might go up if you frequently use the towing service included in your company’s roadside assistance. However, an occasional call for emergency towing is unlikely to affect your rates.
Insurers consider your likelihood of filing a claim when calculating rates, and towing does not usually relate to driving ability. Therefore, towing only affects insurance rates if it is a symptom of a larger problem.
