You need car insurance because it is required by law in most states. You also need it because it offers financial protection by paying for any losses occurred if you cause an accident. This could mean medical bills and property damages for yourself and all others involved in the accident, and even legal fees.

At the minimum, most states require a miniumum amount of automobile insurance.

Beyond that you should have auto insurance to protect you and your family financially from the liability created by driving and owning cars and other autos.

You may also want auto insurance to protect your own vehicle if it should become damaged in an accident.
