I see a Red Flag here.
When you each completed the application for coverage. did you list the children and say that one had other coverage through another plan/carrier? If not and you signed the apllications that all the information given was true AND complete, you may have given boith carriers sufficient grounds to deny paying any claims. Their challenge would be based on a false application and ommitted relevant information which is grounds enough to deny claims submitted.
If your employers fell this is not a problem, then go with their advice, but I'd get that advice in writing. In any event, if a single claim is filed under both policies, I'm certain that only one of the compnaies will pay the claim.
