Stocks and similar growth-oriented investments are generally inappropriate for the short-term. And I'd add...especially at the overpriced valuations we still have in US stock markets. Permanent capital loss is most likely to occur when investors (1) buy investments that are overpriced relative to realistic underlying values, or (2) buy investments that are out of sync with the investor's own time frame. Better to either buy a good investment at reasonable price that you'll hold for the longer term, or stay on the sidelines unless/until you have resources that can be tied-up for longer than just the short-term.
