Fortunately, you are still young. I know it can be daunting to look at retirement when times are tough, but you've got at least 20+ good working years left to begin planning for retirement. It is not always necessary to amass a huge nest egg for retirement. However, it IS important to plan for what retirement will look like. If you are earning Social Security credits, then begin looking at what your SS income stream will look like. Step 2 would be to plan around a "career" that you could enjoy and work in well into your 60's. Even if it doesn't pay tremendously well, it is another form of income for you. Step 3 would be to begin formulating a lifestyle that is inexpensive and sustainable. Find an inexpensive place to live, try to work close to home, and don't build in expensive lifestyle expenses that you cannot afford in retirement.
