Not necessarily, although this does give rise to one of my very favorite contrarian ideas.
A popular market saying is "Sell in May and go away". This refers to the high propensity to take vacations during the summer and otherwise not pay close attention to business matters, and so the theory is that you should get out of the market in May and wait for it to get serious again in late August or early September.
My belief is that, if that's true, and "everyone" sells in May, then prices will be very cheap by Memorial Day. Since we all know to buy low and sell high, well, do I really need to finish that sentence? :)
