International stocks are a good diversifier of portfolio assets. The US equity markets are only a fraction of the total global market for equities. The challenge becomes which stocks and how much to invest.
In my advisory capacity, I have for years used a market research company that provides daily market commentaries and portfolio recommendations. As of their market commentary for this morning, their International exposure is recommended to be 16.8% of total holdings. That allocation is further divided into 6 subcategories which can change on a daily basis, although that would be most unusual. Developed European markets have the biggest exposure while Latin America has the smallest weighting.
