I've actually never heard of a freelance tax. If you mean the tax due on income generated from freelance work, you typically file a federal form schedule C as part of your federal form 1040 for self-employed income. The bottom line on schedule C refers to the net income after deducting all expenses. This amount is then taxed as self-employed income where you are deemed to be the employer and the employee and you pay Social Security and FICA taxes of 15.3%. This tax is then added to the regular income tax and is in addition to your taxes on all income. Hope this helps and good luck
