1st, you will be charged interest for any late payment. If you fail to make payments, the city/town may eventually lien your property so that if you sell it, the tax lien must be paid in full plus interest. In the worse case, the city/town can sell the property for the back tax leins. Your best best is to go to the town hall and tell them you have a problem at this time and see if there a way to pay this on other than a lump sum basis. In oher words, do not avoid the tax bill but instead, address it agressively and see if the city has a pyment plan you can meet.. I hope this helps adn good luck.
