If there was an option for no stars that is what i would enter! I was with Fort Belvoir Federal Credit union before it was merged into Pentagon Federal Credit Union. I have had nothing but ISSUES!. Something was always going wrong. STHF when I deposited a check that was credited to my account and then over a week later it was reversed. There was an error so the check did not go through. This made my account overdrawn and they CLOSED MY CHECKING ACCOUNT and transferred the negative balance to my savings which caused my saving to be overdrawn WTF???! I did not receive a call or anything. When my card stopped working, I called and that is when I found out. I wanted to close that as well, so after being transferred several times, I was told to transfer the money and then i can close everything out. So I made a transfer, called back, then they said the payment will be rejected because I transferred to my checking account which is no longer valid. I have to wait 3 business day until it is rejected, then make the payment to my savings. Needless to say, this is just a summary(believe it or not) I called several times, always talked to a different person, and each time received different information or wrong information. NEVER again PenFed!…read more
Worst bank ever. Can't even get direct deposits right. They love to give excuses though and are exceedingly good at that. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. I look forward to leaving this bank as soon as possible.
I have one issue. When I call, I either get a busy signal or I have to wait for a prolonged amount of time. Customer service has been wonderful. I have encountered one bad rep however, I have been a member since 2009.
On Dec 23 2016 I went to PenFed Tyson location to make a withdrawal and experienced the most racial transaction ever. The teller hand me a pen to fill out my withdrawal slip, ok fine so far, place my money on the counter with two fingers, I went to give him the pen back he reached in his drawer and took out another one and slid my receipt to me with one finger across the counter. Wow!…read more
Waste of time. Opened the account tried to set up direct deposit and bill pay and it was rejected was told I had to wait til my card came to use the account. Waited for the card to get here and now still unable to use it I call in and they say it's because I need a notarized copy of my id. How am I supposed to know this if there is no email or mailed letter to tell me to do so. Also there is an online message center they never even used it. I call back in to send them the notarized email of my id and was told now I need my as card a utility bill notarized. Which is not what the rep told me the day before. The two speaking to me was nonchalant and rude. Closed my accounts immediately. How can you trust a bank with your money they doesn't even have a proper way of communicating with their customers. Stay clear of Penfed…read more
Can't create an account if you're not in a state the bank is in. You comply with legal requirements and they make you jump through more hoops. They do not comply with Section 326 of the USA PATRIOT Act. Representatives state that a color fax must be sent.
1. There is no requirement in Section 326 for a color ID 2. There is no fax capable of color!
Worst customer service. Don't waste your time.. There are 100's of better banks than this in US...... No response to ur mails, opening checking account takes almost 2 months and they don't care unless you call them.. waiting period for Customer service is more than 15 mins
I love Penfed! I was the victim of a severe identity theft a couple of years ago with all of my personal info sold to criminals across the world, and as a result every bank account I've had since then has been hacked...except at Penfed! I feel my money is safe here. Their customer service reps are extremely friendly and helpful and are on top of their game. I trust them 100%. Highly recommended.
I am very happy with PFCU. I had always used a "traditional bank" but then I noticed that the fees were piling up and that, a lot of times, these fees were wrong or were a mistake. That meant I would have to go to the bank and wait in line with my "proof" of their mistake. Normally, I was met by condescending employees who treated me as if I was a criminal for calling them out on their mistakes. Forget that. I love working with the people at PFCU and I wouldn't go back to a regular bank for anything!…read more
I would recommend Pentagon Federal credit union. They aren't local, but they are amazing. They are willing to lend large amounts of money, and you don't have to jump through a million hoops. It is a little more difficult to get in, but when you do they treat you right. 1.99% or less for car loans. I have been very happy with them.
No, you do not have to be a federal employee to open a checking account. Anyone can become a PenFed member by making a $15 donation. Please find more details here: https://www.penfed.org/member-benefits.
The bank might have places a restriction on your account, thus you will not be able to withdraw funds. Typically, these restrictions are applied when your account has a negative balance. As soon as the account is in good standing the bank will lift the restriction.
When using the overdraft protection service you will be linking your savings account to your checking account. Thus, your overdraft limit will actually be your savings account available balance. Unfortunately, PenFed does not offer senior accounts.
In the event that in a given week, for this product, there were multiple applicable rates in our database based on different criteria, the above graph reflects the lowest interest rate recorded. Before submitting an application, always verify with the issuing institution (i.e. bank, credit union, other lender) the rates, fees, and all terms and conditions accompanying the application.
