I decided to switch my account from a major bank to the Brooklyn Co-Op because I wanted to put my money to work in the local community. I suspected that I had made the right decision as soon as I went in to the Bed-Stuy branch to apply. The person who helped me was genuinely friendly and very thorough in explaining the account options and services that would best fit my needs. It was actually the first time in my life that I honestly enjoyed a conversation with a financial services representative instead of counting the minutes until I could end it. That was more than two years ago and my experiences as a customer have lived up to my expectations. When I had a problem with delayed delivery of my first set of checks it was resolved immediately by an employee who went out of her way to find out what happened and issue me temporary checks. Every time I go into the branch office I am treated like a valued customer by workers who are never anything but pleasant and helpful. I can't imagine ever going back to Chase or CitiBank. If you live in Bushwick or Bed-Stuy (both very underserved by the major banks anyway), you won't find a better alternative than the Brooklyn Co-Op.…show more
I chose a local credit union as my new bank because I can no longer tolerate the fees and other unpleasantries at my (former) traditional big bank. I broke up with my bank and it feels good! I'm so done with national chain banks, and being able to support the local community where I live is also a plus. I opened a personal checking account with the Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union just recently. Since I live pretty close the location, it's no more inconvenient or difficult to go the branch than it was before I started banking here. The opening process was a piece of cake. They are extremely nice -- and it's genuine niceness, not the fake smile and platitudes you get elsewhere. So far, so good. I certainly can't complain thus far, about the level of customer service or the promptness of getting a card/checks in the mail or the account quality itself. Thumbs up!…show more
I really prefer to bank locally when I can. I'm not opposed to big national chain banks, but I do like to support the community that I live in. That's why I went a few weeks ago to open up a checking account with the Brooklyn Coop Federal Credit Union. I must say, that although they are thorough in the opening procedure (ie: you need to live within a certain radius of the central branch location), I couldn't be happier with their service thus far. I got my checks and card in the mail promptly and was able to open the account with a very modest initial deposit. It hasn't been that long yet, but from what I see so far, this credit union is a winner.…show more
