Had account for decades but remained a loyal customer. Finally had enough and switched to Navy Federal. I finally saw what true customer service was like. I feel like I moved out of the dark ages into the age of enlightenment.
Impossible to sort out a problem (rejected check deposit) because you can only talk to a call center, not to the branch that rejected the deposit. Call center calls branch, who has no explanation, but will hopefully get back to call center (not to me) sometime. No phone number for direct contact to branch, to find out why the check was rejected. This is not customer service, and I will be taking most of my banking biz elsewhere at first opportunity.
I have had too many bad experiences with big banks, from horrible customer service to being took for every penny they could with an unimaginable amount of fees. I decided to check out a credit union since everyone was talking about them. I went with Chartway Federal Credit Union and I have had no complaints with them at all. Great customer service, no fees at all, and generally just a better banking experience overall. I really wish I never even went with big banks at all now.
My wife has had a Chartway Federal Credit Union account now for six years, and she loves it. Although not as well-known as some of the other Federal Credit Unions in the Hampton Roads, Military friendly communities, Chartway is an excellent option for your credit union needs. Chartway has tons of ATM's in my area (Virginia Beach), competitive rates for their loans, and super-friendly staff who are always willing to go the extra mile to assist. Setting up an account was a breeze as well, and after submitting her direct deposit forms, we have had zero issues with deposits. Their website is a breeze to navigate as well. Overall, a solid option.
I switched to Chartway Federal Credit Union about a month ago because I was tired of the bank that I've been with for 10 years raising their fees every time I look at my statement. This bank promises no fees and no minimum balance. To join I had to donate 10 dollars of my money to their philanthropic arm, the We Promise Foundation. I wasn't to thrilled about that but you have to chose between the lesser evils. I like being at a credit union though. It really beats the heck out of those "to big to fail" banks. I don't feel as if I have to keep a constant eye on them, so they don't steal my money.
I've had nothing but positive experiences with Chartway. Setting up my account over the phone was so simple I was able to complete most of it while driving home from work. Every person I encounter with Chartway is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the credit union's products and services. What I love most is that when I deposit my paycheck inside the branch, my funds are available immediately. At other banks, I've had to wait at least one business day, sometimes even more. Even if I deposit my check through the ATM, the first $200 is available right away. Chartway has very fair fees and policies, so much so that I've only ever received ATM fees. I've had dreadful experiences with commercial banks and for a short time considered just stuffing my money into my mattress. I am so happy I found Chartway - my experience with them is exactly what I've always expected my business with a financial institution should be.
