I had an account with HSBC which was transferred to Citizens. The transfer process was long an painful and all my account were not even transferred. I started paying my bills when all of a sudden they froze my account with no notices or communication to my about it or why. I found out the hard way... I tried to pay a bill which they denied to release the funds. I made several calls to the bank consistently being put on hold and being transferred. They could not answer any of my questions other than the fact my account had been frozen. I told them that I only wanted to get my funds and close all accounts. I have $729 in my checking account. One of the Repersenative tried to help me set up my transfer of my funds to another bank. They said my funds would be transferred on 4/9/2022. Today 5/11/2022, I received an email saying: "You’re Ability to Schedule Transactions Has Been Suspended”. This is fraud and insane. I have asked to have this escalated, I was transferred and then told to call back tomorrow when the right department opens. My Advice, STAY AWAY FROM CITIZENS BANK because there is some type of fraud going on here. They really need to be investigated.

I typically don't write review for banks, but today I have to send the message to you: "Run as fast as you could, and as far as you can from this bank". I have nothing but nightmare after HSBC transfer my account over to this bank. Please trust me if you want to wait 1 to 3 hours for customer service down on central America who don't know what you are talking about, no idea what you need, please join this bank---and you will regret BIG time. After couple months of dealing business, I finally speak to someone down on Rhode Island, the first US person I can get the hold with. He finally explain to me the issue I have to deal with (which does not make sense too), but at least I know how they operate. I am going to transfer all the funds to any other bank...and I guarantee you the WORST bank on the USA is far much better than Citizens. AGAIN ! RUN AWAY FAST !

Horrible Bank. They're basically broke. Wouldn't even cash a small five figure check, or do a cashier's check, because they didn't have the cash. Why no cashier's check? It's our policy. Well, your policies mean I'll never go back.

I have had to call Customer Service 2 times in the last week. I had to wait 30 minutes for the 1st call and now on hold for 26 minutes. This is terrible!! I tried to go into the branch and get assistance and was told I had to call Customer Service to reverse my fraud claim. When I told her the hold time is too long, she nodded her head and didn't say a word. She agreed with no apology, no empathy, nothing. Time to switch banks.

As a former HSBC customer, Citizens is a disaster. I am based overseas, so am unable to use mobile banking, send wire transfers, or register for Zelle. It took five weeks and numerous phone calls to get any checks. I am told by customer service that they are not a suitable bank for me, and that I should take my business elsewhere. But no US bank will let me open an account until I am physically in the USA. You would have thought that they were aware in buying the HSBC business that they were taking on international customers. Apparently not.

Worst bank ever! I've closed an account multiple times where Citizens will reopen it and put it in overdraft from "service fee's". On top of that, regardless the time of day any time I call support for assistance you will wait 40 minutes at LEAST before reaching a representative. I've decided I want to close my services with Citizens and each time I call all they do is suspend the debit cards and accounts continue to go into overdraft. Another issue I've notices is each representative will give a completely different answer. I've called 4-5 times about suspending the account itself (not the debit cards) so that it will not be able to go into overdraft and each representative told me they can't suspend the account itself, but luckily I after time and time on the phone finally got an agent who did suspend the account. Not just having trouble closing the account all together because no matter how you word it, they don't seem to understand when you want to leave Citizens.
I do not recommend Citizens as your main branch. With how bad support and the services are when trying to suspend, you risk overdraft and service charges.

My HSBC checking account was transferred to Citizens after HSBC sold off part of their business. Their basic checking has a $10 monthly maintenance fee, which is a terrible deal. I'm trying to close my account, and there's always a wait time of more than 45 minutes to reach an agent.

This is a horribkle bank. They change your account type without notifying you, and then charge you a monthly service fee and only let you know once your account is overdrawn. I have tried to cancel the account twice now - I was told it was cancelled, I did everything they said. And then I get a notice in the mail that the account is overdrawn AGAIN because they NEVER CLOSED IT AND KEEP CHARGING SERVICE FEES! And they are clearly INCREDIBLY understaffed because I'm always on hold for an HOUR to try and talk to someone about how I'm being stolen from by this horrible company. They don't even fully refund you for the service fees they sneak up on you with, I got like half of it back. Horrid bank.
