I’m glad they’re open to new technology, they don’t have regular tellers but rather teller machines. The only challenges I just walked into my local branch the ATM machine was being replaced. The clerk at the desk said hey we have these new machines that are teller or ATM. So I used my card and wanted to withdraw $160. Most ATMs give you in denominations of 20s, this one gives you a $100 bill. If you don’t want a hundred dollar bill, then you have to get a teller, taking more of my time, deposit the $100 with the teller and then request $20 bills, again taking more time. Not a savvy tech friendly co.…show more
Horrible bank. I've been with Coastal for almost 20 years with excellent service. Apparently they have gone through some changes recently...NOT for the better. I had a fraudulent charge on my account that I called to report. 7 calls and a week later, it is still not taken care of. They keep transferring me, forwarding me to voicemails and coming up with excuses as to why it hasn't been taken care of yet. I am currently on hold with them now.....my 3rd call today and already an over 20 minute hold time. I will be taking my money to another financial institute ASAP.…show more
Bad service sneaky I deposited money into my checking account and They took 423 without telling or giving me a receipt that fraud bad service closing this account they are not honest will take money without telling you
Coastal Federal Credit Union is engaging in "t-taking." They held up a routine external transfer in for a day last week from another financial institution. I was trying to make a home purchase today and need the funds in one account. Today the systems are down online and in the service center and branches. They won't even give me my balance. I'm transferring out about $30,000--don't chance it. I can't make my purchase.
This bank used to have great customer service, but has gone downhill over the past year. They charged me a $31 overdraft fee even though I have overdraft protection, and they refuse to refund it. Every time my debit card expires, they send me three different cards and two PIN numbers. Last time, none of the PINs worked for the one card that worked... the same thing happened for my husband. With the fees on top of the terrible customer service, I think it's better to just open a checking account at a big bank.……show more
After changing jobs last year, I also decided to "unbank" from BB&T, a company I had banked with for over 10 years. Their qualifiers to avoid maintenance fees had gotten ridiculous, the customer service had degraded and I didn't appreciate being pinged $8 - $10 per month because my direct deposits didn't total $500 every time.
After doing some research, I decided to join CFCU. My mom was a member, so it made it easy for me to join. It was easy to fill out an application online, and the customer service was super helpful with setting up my online banking. You can't beat their various banking products, and due to their Co-Op Shared Branching status and CashPoints networks, it makes it easy to check balances and bank within the credit union network.
It's only been four months, but I'm never going back to the Big Banks again.…show more
I'm a college student and I don't have a lot of money to myself. But i got a job on campus over winter break and had a nice little windfall from it. I decided to open my first bank account finally and had two choices; a well-known national chain bank or a small credit union that has just opened membership to my college the previous September.
I choose Coastal Federal Credit Union and I couldn't be happier. My experience as a customer new to banking in general I found the remote tellers and in bank staff to be friendly, polite and willing to answer my endless questions, account queries and reset my security codes three times when I forgot the answers and was locked out of my own account. I also enjoy no fees no minimums and the security of knowing my bank isn't going to change me just for holding on to my money.
Setting up my account took roughly an our and I coudl do most of it online, all I had to do was go into the nearest branch to confirm my information and fund the account.
I adore CFCU and I plan to keep them for the foreseeable future.…show more
I've been a member of Coastal Federal Credit Union for years. Mostly I have been impressed with their increased focus on appeasing their customers as well as their continued expansion of locations. I’m able to access my account in a variety of locations, and their cash points partnership furthers that. Lately they’ve gone so far as to help reverse incidental overage amounts. It’s always a hassle to get them to respond, though. If you can get past that, great bank.…show more
Coastal Federal Credit Union has been great with all of my interactions with them. They make customer service one of their strong points and it really shows. Anytime you go into a branch of theirs, you will be greeted and helped, even if you don't need it. At first, I was offput by this because I'm the type that likes to figure stuff out for myself, but it actually is really helpful. In addition to their great customer service, CFCU has great rates. It is hard to find rates as good as theirs. Currently, I'm abroad and enjoying their 1% international transaction fee rate, as opposed to standard 3% rates for most credit cards and other banks.
The one thing I don't like that I still haven't gotten used to is the teller system they use. They source their tellers to a central location that can serve any branch, so you do all of your transactions with a machine and a person on a screen talking to you. It was very strange the first few times, but I guess it is cost effective. Overall, I really like CFCU and plan to stay with them for the long-term.…show more
I have had no problems with Coastal. They have many locations and it's very convenient to find a branch even though they are a local credit union. The application process can be done about 80% online for a new member, and then someone followed up with me pretty quickly. It took a little longer than I would have liked to transfer funds to my new account from an old one, but that's maybe a function of my old financial institution. I love the tellers that one branch uses- they use webcams and video chat to remotely assist many patrons in doing things like depositing checks. I think you still get a personal experience this way, and I can see that they are doing a lot to be efficient. Plus the novelty of interacting remotely with a teller can be fun. The online banking interface doesn't look fantastic and doesn't have all the features I might want, but it works fine.…show more
