Fifth Third Bank Checking Accounts Reviews
What's Your Rating?
I had banked with them for roughly 20 years. They were always just okay. Issues with them blocking my card multiple times over purchases I had made in person which was annoying. Not to mention their interest rates on savings accounts are garbage.
A few years ago I moved to Canada and needed to update my mailing and billing address. Absolutely no way to do that online, even when you call and have them change it, they do it completely wrong. It took 3 calls for them to get it right. Then I wanted to transfer my money to canada... nope, they can't do that, they said. Unable to do a large transfer online and have to drive 5 hours to the US to a branch to get a wire transfer!! Even tried calling a branch and they had absolutely no idea how to get me my own blasted money.
I had to use a 3rd party company "wise.com" to withdrawal my money and then transfer it, which is absolutely absurd that I had to do that. Lucky for me, my new band offered to cover the transfer fee. For a bank that boasts $133 billion in assets, they need to get their heads out of their assets and make their banking more than their "fifth third better." Even simplii does international yransfers... I don't recommend 5/3 at all.
My card has had a fraud block on it 4 times in 3 months for transactions I make in my HOMETOWN. Then they apologize and take 2 weeks to issue a new card.
They also just took 2 weeks (10 full business days) to process my PAYCHECK because apparently they got confidential information that the funds weren't available. My employer proved they had the funds available immediately but they could do nothing about it as the check was already "processed" into my account and was just waiting for my bank to release it.
I've never had any of these issues with Chase or Huntington and my checks have never bounced before. 5th 3rd is a whole joke and you'd be better off keeping your money in a shoebox!

Is Fifth Third Bank FDIC insured?
Yes, a Fifth Third Bank account is FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per customer, per account ownership category. This means that even if Fifth Third Bank fails, you will eventually be able to recover an individual account's balance up to $250,000.
If you have a joint account, each co-owner of the account is considered a separately insured customer. As a result, you can collectively recover the account's balance up to $500,000 in the event of a bank failure, assuming you have no other shared accounts.
However, not all financial products offered by Fifth Third Bank are FDIC-insured. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation only insures deposit accounts. They do not insure investment products, which can lose value.
