Had a business account (one person DBA) for over ten years with them. In January, I received my statement with a new $20.00 monthly service charge. Called and they said that it was a permanent monthly charge. Closed all my accounts and left. They are a bunch of greedy folks.
I had mistakenly entered my account number by putting a 7 instead of a 1 for direct deposit at my work so I can get paid through direct deposit. Well I called them and noticed my mistake that I had done at my work when I realized I hadn't gotten paid on Friday. So I called the SSFCU and told them what had happened. They looked it up and saw my check was put into another account in Colorado and I am in Utah. So clearly I thought ok so can you transfer my pay check to my account? NOPE!!! Called my work gotten all the paper trail they said they needed from my work. Went back into SSFCU, Then was told yes we see it is clearly a mistake and we see it's your money and paycheck. Simple error by entering the wrong number when I did my direct deposit information. BUT..... SSFCU says that my work needs a addendum from my works bank to get my money back. But my work has given all the paper work they can get and said that this happens a lot with people making that simple mistake and that ssfcu should have caught that my name didn't match with the account they put MY PAYCHECK into. And I was told that there is nothing they can do. REALLY? I have been a customer for years!!! Who protects ME A CLIENT from this at ssfcu??? NOBODY!!! So I worked 52 hours and get NO PAY for it because SSFCU WILL NOT give me my hard earned paycheck back!!! They have all the information and can clearly see what happened but the women whom they put my check into's account gets to keep MY MONEY!!! But it's not over. Contacting a attorney and local news. This is ILLEGAL ON MANY LEVELS!!! SICKENING!!! SECURITY SERVICE, NO WONDER YOU ARE HAVING TO CLOSE SO MANY BRANCHES. HORRIBLE MOST AWFUL THEIFS I'VE EVER HEARD OF. SICKENING!!! NOBODY SHOULD FEEL SAFE HAVING THEM AS YOUR CREDIT UNION. BECAUSE THIS COULD BE ANY ONE OF YOU. WHO PROTECTS US??? NOBODY AT SECURITY SERVICE. DISGUSTING AND RUDEST CUSTOMER SERVICE. ALWAYS LIKED THIS PLACE UNTIL THEY STOLE FROM ME. MY FAMILY DESPERATELY NEEDS MY PAYCHECK!!! YOU PEOPLE ARE SICK!!!…show more
Someone stole hubby's card info and drained our checking account. I was told they do not automatically refund you the stolen money (like all other normal banks and credit unions do) but instead it could take at least 2 weeks for you to get your money back. Mean time, we have no grocery money. And the rep on the phone couldn't careless about that. Guess my kids are going to starve. Thanks Security Service! Oh and thanks for that $6 monthly charge for my "free" checking account.…show more
I had requested to get overdraft protection on my account. A couple years back I lost my wallet and I just wanted to be safe rather than sorry. I always had money in my account to keep it open. I felt I was safe from any companies, i.e Netflix, Spotify, etc, that took out monthly payments for their subscriptions. This is what I was told when I was talking to a tenant about protection on my account. Come to find out, not one but three companies took out the money without there being sufficient funds and I of course got hit with the overdraft fee. This was all during the time I did not have a job and was unable to pay the fee. One, if I ask for overdraft protection, please respect those wishes and apply that when you notice insufficient funds in my account. Two, I should not have to pay half of those fees considering again, I had overdraft protection. I have been going to this bank for a very long while. The fact that this happened shocks me. If this is how this bank runs, you bet your succubus butts I’m not opening an account here ever again. This is disrespectful, this is sucking money out of your customers pockets, it’s rude and extremely unprofessional. Thank you.…show more
Overdraft protection doesn't always apply to recurring subscription services. What you should have done was, temporarily cancel all of the subscription services until you are able to get back on your feet. This sounds like an error on your part as well. Also, banks (and credit unions) are fairly lenient in reversing overdraft fees, if you never allow your account to go negative. IF they didn't reverse these overdraft fees, this means you are habitually overdrafting and have used up any opportunities to get these fees reversed. As mentioned before, banks are fairly lenient, I suggest you learn to manage your money better.…show more
Like others on this site stated, they started charging everyone $6.00 out of the blue for a program i didn't sign up for. The problem was that this was on a dormant account with $2.00 in it, and had not been touched for over 3 years. I was hit with fees and penalties, mgmt did not waive all of them and forced me to pay up or have my credit ruined. This was a blatant money grab, caution be aware and bank elsewhere.…show more
I have tried to pay a loan off three separate times. You can't bill pay for over 30k, can't wire transfer over the phone more than 50k, they won't allow you to set up a wire transfer on the weekend from branch. won't allow you to withdraw 25K cash from branch when walking in. It's my money!!! SSFCU is terrible to do business with. They made me a Presidents Club member that include hollow benefits. Highly recommend finding another institution to put your money.…show more
Out of the blue, I received an email advising that SSFCU was removing me from my regular checking program and instead opting me into a NEW "power protected checking" program with out my permission. At the very bottom they indicated this will charge me $6 a month for this program that I never showed any interest in. And it stated that I didnt have to do anything to stay in the program as long as I paid a $6 fee every month. Well I dont want it! I never wanted it. I never asked about it. But they signed me up without my approval anyway. The only way to opt out of the program and prevent the fee was to call or go into a branch. I've been banking with SSFCU for almost 20 years and have no no other major problems like this. But if I would have overlooked the email, they would have automatically started charging me $6 a month for a program that I never wanted and never asked to join. VERY SHADY. When I called to complain, the customer service was less than helpful and had a "we dont care" attitude. I asked for the official email address, cc'd the senior VP who is charge of this change, and I wrote a very concerned email regarding the issue. Of course, I've received no reply.
I'm in the process of finding another bank now.…show more
I've been with SSFCU since the first part of the year. I like how they are large enough to have the options and features of the larger lenders, but still have the personal touches you would get from a smaller branch. Their online banking app myBranch, has saved me a ton of time and effort by providing virtually any option I could need, like transferring between accounts, paying my bills online, and transfer my account history into an excel file. Friendly and convenient was what I was after and they have met my expectations by far.…show more
When I moved out of my previous state I started looking for a new credit union to join. As I had very good experience with them in the past I decided I needed a new one closer to my new location. A neighbor recommended Security Service Federal Credit Union as they had used them and had good experiences. I checked them out and they were very good. They recognized me when I walked in and treated me very well. Low fees as well, which is always a plus. Highly recommended.…show more
