I never felt so rushed and unwelcome by a customer service representative at a credit union the way I did today at SEFCU Latham Branch. I don't if I got there just before her lunch or what. I stopped at the branch to make sure that my tax return direct deposit has been returned or rejected by the clearinghouse so I could get my paper check in the mail or another direct deposit. Becky or Rebecca, I can't quite remember her name was so rude and unprofessional. I was at her desk for probably less than two minutes. You could sense by her responses and open-ended questions that she wanted to get rid of me quick. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Once they have your acct., you are crap. Horrible!!!!!!!!!! Took my deposit by Tele deposit then the 3rd deposit, they say they can't. No notice, just can't do it. RUDE PEOPLE TOO!!!!
SEFCU has a bad problem with not checking names instead they only check the account number. This is the third and final mistake on there part. First they posted our daughters funds into someone else's account 2 times. Third they cashed someone else's check onto an old account of mine applying charges and sending it into the negative. Turned around closed the account and turned it over to collections with no attempt to notify me. Three years latter they corrected the error after I confronted them about it. I am okay with my account at SEFCU. I am not overly impressed by the services they offer, but they are not bad either. They have okay loan rates, and the savings rates are extremely low. The staff at the local branch i go to is friendly and always willing to help me when I have any issues. I wish they would update their online services though. They are a nice local credit union to have around. I would probably shop elsewhere if I needed a loan product, just because I feel like there are other credit unions with lower rates. They do have a free checking though, which is great! They also made the account opening process very easy, and opening a checking was easy as well.…show more
My experience with SEFCU has been great, no account charges, no fees, no cancellation issues if I need to move accounts since I use this bank while I'm away at college. My only issue with this checking account is that the online portion is finicky, I accidentally locked myself out of my account and after several attempts over the phone, still haven't re-gained access due to an obfuscated robo-call process. Somewhat frustrating.
I have been a member for about 6 months now. I love SEFCU. I have not had to pay any fees except to pay for my checks. When I went to my local branch in Rensselaer, depositing my check was made very easy with a teller or through the ATM. Once I was a member for long enough, I was able to apply very quickly for a small line of credit so that I could use their mobile deposit feature. Besides a few error's occasionally it works perfect. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I even loved the free T-Shirt day! My savings account also has a pretty competitive interest rate. Better than my old bank at Citizens Bank, and not quite as good as online banks like Ally.…show more
I have had a very positive experience with SEFCU overall, opening a personal account, a joint account with my wife, and a business account. I've also spoken with them about home equity loans and other banking issues. I've been exceedingly pleased with them over all. The biggest issue that I had was in opening my business account. They needed extremely specific paperwork, some of which I didn't have, and they refused to accept alternatives, even when I couldn't have gotten the paperwork I had if I didn't have the legal permissions they sought the initial paperwork to prove. This branch is clean and the staff is friendly and easy to work with. Even when the line is particularly long, it moves well and I've never waited in line for more than 5-10 minutes. The few times I've needed non-teller services, the wait has been exceptionally short and completed quickly.I can't ever remember a time in my life when I liked a bank. Bank of Am, Chase, Citi, WaMu....god they all sucked, made my life miserable and wanted to make me puke and say F-YOU!....Then I moved to the Capital District and met SEFCU.....and I all I can say today is...I love you.I recommend SEFCU anytime my family or friends ask my opinion of financial institutions or when those who use actual banks complain about how poorly they are treated.SEFCU already rates highly on my list. Great credit union. But I wanted to give a shout-out to the employees at the Latham branch, who recently worked with me on a car loan. I am a little new with SEFCU, but so far my experiences have been very good. I am a student at RPI, and they are the local credit union. It is extremely convenient that SEFCU has a branch directly on campus with ATMs and tellers. Their hours are reasonable, and they are all VERY friendly. When I signed up for my debit card with them, they required a savings account with $1 in it but they put in the dollar for me for free. The process was very easy. One problem I did have was that I cannot seem to get my online banking to work. They gave me a temporary password, but no username and I can't figure out what it is. As a result, it makes it difficult to link with PayPal because I need to confirm a deposit amount. For the most part, they are very friendly, and I have had a good experience with them. I have used SEFCU for all of my banking needs for sometime. Every time I walk into any of my local branches, I receive exceptional customer service. Any issues have been taken care of promptly. I was recently enjoying my summer vacation and the hotel had a glitch at registration which resulted in two holds being placed on my account instead of just one. This threatened to throw a wrench in my vacation plans, as this was a substantial amount of money being held. I contacted SEFCU and they worked with the hotel to remedy the situation immediately. They really go above and beyond for all of their members- and that's something they are consistent about. I cannot recommend them enough!…show more
