Long holds on deposits, unauthorized withdrawals and unavailable customer service makes SunTrust the worst bank I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with. After 10 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars deposited I have had enough. I'm winding down this account and going elsewhere.

SunTrust cancelled my Debit Card for fraudulent activity, despite the fact that no fraudulent activity had occurred. Add to this the fact that they did not tell me it was cancelled and I had ordered food at a local restaurant that I now could not pay for. So humiliating, my mother had to make a 90-mile round trip from Christmas just to bring me cash for my food. Then, when I call Customer Service, they tell me that the new card can't be sent to my mailing address... and sit down for this one... because the number of the cell phone I was calling from was not reporting an address, despite the fact that it was on record from the day I opened the account, along with my mailing address. Then, they tell me it will arrive at the branch on Thursday or Friday. So, I call on Friday to confirm it was at the branch, and am told by the customer service department that it had been delivered and I could go pick it up. I get to the branch, and no card was received. They tell me it will arrive on Saturday, but can't give me a tracking number. So, now it's Tuesday, and still no card. But, they tell me they'll be happy to tell me when it comes in. (Keep in mind it's now 4 days late and was supposedly sent via FedEx overnight...) Still, no offer to try and locate. Now it's Wednesday, and I go to the branch, and no card still. They finally decide to re-order. In the meantime, I can't pay any bills, order anything on-line, pay at the pump (yes, I'm handicapped, but SunTrust doesn't care about that...), and can't pay my E-PASS tolls. This company is super conservative when it comes to fraud. I signed up for what I thought was a secret shopper program which sent me a check that I deposited. Apparently, SunTrust detected that the check was a fraud at which point they denied me access to ALL (why all of them?) of my accounts with no warning. This happened while I was on a business trip leaving me with no access to any of my funds since I do not use credit cards. SunTrust says my funds will be released in 5 to 15 days. I talked to someone in their Client First Solutions department. Apparently, that is a misnomer since my concerns certainly were not first!…show more
I can't even give SunTrust 1 star. I've been with this bank for over a year and have had problems since day one. Awful bank with awful customer service. Finding another bank and closing the shit trust account.
I have been a customer of SunTrust for 6 years and can't wait to close my account with them. I have had enough with this cheating, money-grabbing excuse for a bank. Not only does their online banking app crash all the time, they charge a fee for everything it seems. You get hit for "excessive" withdrawal fees from your own account, even though you're responsibly transferring money from your savings to your checking. They charge a fee for transferring money you already have in your account because one of your accounts is in the negative. They charge overdraft fees on PENDING charges that haven't officially posted!!! And even when you talk with a rep to reverse the fees, they justify their policy and make you feel like you aren't on top of your account. The rep said that I shouldn't look at the main screen of my account, but to go to a little button somewhere in an obscure menu where the "official" account balance would be. If the available balance isn't obvious then that is an insanely stupid design. Lastly, and the recurring complaint that's cost my fiancé and I hundreds of dollars in just the past few months, is that transactions are rearranged in such a way so that you get hit with overdraft fees. Multiple times I've looked at my available balance and could see I had more than enough money to be in the positive. But what do you know, Suntrust finds a way to rearrange things so that you go in the negative, and go even further in the negative with their overdraft fees. The worst part is my fiancé and I have the texting option so that when our accounts go in the negative, we get a text. We don't get the blasted texts, or if we do, then it's already too late; the fees are already anchored in. When we talk with the reps, whether in person or through chat, they just don't care. It doesn't matter if that was the money we were going to use for gas, or for bills, or for rent. We have to suck it up because "banking policies." A few years ago I was being paid with bad checks from the company I worked for. I got hit with fees from Suntrust. When I told them and gave them proof that the company admitted they were sending bad checks and would use another account, Suntrust didn't reverse my fees. Never ever working with Suntrust again. Had fraudulent charges on my account in the evening. They refused to freeze my account over the phone which allowed the thief to take more money overnight. In the morning, I had to go into a Suntrust office to have my accounts frozen to prevent further loss. The bank says they will not be able to return my money for at least 10 business days. I received no warning about fraudulent charges even though the charges were happening out of my home state minutes after legit charges were happening here. Most idiotic fraud alert system I've ever heard about. I, obviously, cannot be in two places at once. The rep I spoke with was very non-chalant about the situation and seemed to not really care about what was happening to me. Didn't seem to care about how distraught I was. This is, hands down, the worst experience I've ever had dealing with a bank. They have all the money and yet they can't give me a provisionary refund while they investigate. REALLY BAD experience on 8/7/17 with the Toco Hill, Ga. branch's "customer service" person. She told me I had been RUDE to her since I walked in. I wish I had a video with sound of this unfortunate encounter so everyone could see who the "rude" one really was. I have had NO problem with SunTrust until this encounter. I am going elsewhere most likely -- still pondering that since my complaint is that SunTrust has this type of person out front and center for us to deal with.…show more
Every week or so my debit card is declined, then I have to spend 30mins-1 hour waiting on hold to get my card activated again. I'm tired of not being notified when my debit card is frozen, and not even being contacted. I waste too much time on this BS, working on switching banks now.
